German free-to-air broadcaster ARD has acquired media rights to the UEFA Nations League following a six-year deal. ARD has agreed to share coverage of the German national football team’s matches and other international football action with fellow network operators ZDF and RTL until 2028.
ARD has maintained broadcast rights for the DFB-Pokal tournament from the 2022/23 to the 2025/26 campaign, and will share coverage with ZDF and Sky Deutschland. For Das Erste, they will again provide partial coverage of the competition, with 15 matches available, including the semi-finals and the final, but for the first time in a decade, will be joined by ZDF. Additionally, fans will be able to access bonus coverage, including game highlights both online and on TV.

ARD and ZDF have reached an agreement in Germany to share access to 48 matches of the 2022 World Cup. ARD’s World Cup schedule includes two group matches involving the German national team—specifically against Japan and Costa Rica—in addition to the Final. The distribution agreement with ZDF also allows ARD to show Germany’s match in the quarterfinal, should the team qualify for that stage. ARD’s 2022 World Cup coverage includes match highlights, analysis, previews, and reports, and all the action may be followed online on its website or the ARD Mediathek app.
ARD and ZDF own the broadcasting rights of the UEFA Nations League for the German territory. The agreement covers the first two editions: 2018-19 and 2020-21 and will see ARD and ZDF combining to show coverage of the German Men's National team as well as other matches in the bi-annual event.
ARD and ZDF hold the rights to both the qualifying matches for the Euro Cup and the World Cup as well as the rights for the 2020 Euro Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
