Canal+ has secured the media rights for the English Premier League (EPL) across multiple countries in the Sub-Saharan African region, spanning the 2022-23 to 2024-25 seasons. The deal covers Internet, Mobile and Television commercial broadcast rights.
This agreement permits Canal+ exclusive pay-TV broadcast rights in French-speaking territories within the Sub-Saharan region, covering all 380 EPL matches per season. The rights include live broadcasts, delayed transmissions, and highlights packages.
Canal+ subscribers can watch live EPL matches on CANAL+ SPORT linear channels and also via the CANAL+ app, which allows replays via on-demand access. The French-speaking countries in the Sub-Saharan African region include Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Republic of the Congo), Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire), Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, and Togo.
CANAL+ has secured exclusive French-language broadcast rights for the 2024 Copa America in Sub-Saharan Africa. Subscribers to CANAL+SPORT can watch Copa America live and in HD on CANAL+ SPORT 1 and CANAL+ SPORT 2, with live streaming and replay options available via the CANAL+ app. Coverage will also include a dedicated nightly show, CANAL COPA AMERICA. Pay-TV broadcaster Canal Plus Afrique has agreed a multi-year deal for French-language rights of the Ligue 1 in sub-Saharan Africa. The rights will enable the satellite TV operator to show multiple matches live every week on its family of high definition sports networks until 2024. Coverage will also include full match replays, extensive highlights, as well as magazine shows and news programs. Every Ligue 1 match aired on TV will be streamed live on the broadcaster’s subscription-based over-the-top (OTT) platform myCanal. The French Ligue 1 on Canal+ Afrique is expected to be available in over 20 African countries, including the following: Burkina Faso, Burundi, Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, RDC, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Togo.
Pay-TV network Canal Plus (or Canal+ Afrique) has extended its existing French-language broadcast rights for the Spanish LaLiga, covering sub-Saharan Africa, Mauritius, and Madagascar. This renewal allows Canal Plus to provide live coverage of both LaLiga and LaLiga SmartBank matches, alongside match highlights and full replays on its linear and digital platforms. The agreement, starting with the 2022-23 season, marks the continuation of a relationship established before the 2020-21 season, enabling the network to broadcast significant soccer content from these regions.

Canal Plus Afrique will be sharing Bundesliga coverage with fellow pay-TV broadcaster StarTimes and will air live Bundesliga games on television and on its streaming platform.

Telecasts for every game will be provided in high definition.

The pay-TV broadcaster will air live Italian Serie A matches on weekends on its family of sports TV networks. Coverage will include full replays as well. Live Serie A streaming will be available on myCANAL – the OTT service for Canal+ subscribers online and on Android and iOS mobile devices.
