The Premier League announced in June 2022 that it was suspending its broadcast deal with Russia’s Match TV network. According to Reuters, the decision taken at the Premier League’s annual general meeting was in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Match TV had previously secured television and digital rights to the English Premier League in Russia after signing a six-year deal. The arrangement was meant to take effect starting from the 2022/23 season. All Premier League games were to be offered to subscribers on TV, streaming services and on-demand.
Match TV has been confirmed as the exclusive broadcast rights holder of the 2022 World Cup in Russia. Although Channel One and VGTRK were initially in the running to obtain Russian rights, Match TV announced in early November that all 64 matches of the Qatar World Cup would be available exclusively on its TV channels and online streaming service. The Russian multi-platform broadcaster’s coverage includes extensive match highlights, replays, and more.
