Sports fans in Ghana and Nigeria can watch the English Premier League on SportyTV, the free-to-air television network that has the right to air one English Premier League game per round.
SportyTV is a linear, 24/7, free-to-air sports channel which focuses entirely on football coverage. In Nigeria, SportyTV can be accessed on StarTimes on DTT (channel 258) and on DTH (channel 190), as well as on StarTimes ON. In Ghana, SportyTV is available on DTT (channel 36), DTH (channel 190), and MultiTV in Ghana.
Sporty TV is also available on StarTimes On, a mobile video streaming service that provides Premier League live streams in sub-Saharan Africa.
StarTimes has successfully renewed its African media rights to the Saudi Pro League (RSL) for two more seasons, from 2023/24 to 2024/25. This broadcast deal gives StarTimes exclusive rights to air live Saudi Pro League matches across its DTT, DTH, and OTT platforms in the sub-Saharan African region. Pay-tv broadcaster StarTimes has acquired French-language media rights for the Spanish La Liga in sub-Saharan Africa for four seasons. The deal between StarTimes and LaLiga covers four seasons, from 2020-21 to 2023-24 and includes all 380 matches. The games will be aired in 47 African countries on television and will be available to stream live online on StarTimes ON—the network’s OTT platform.
Sub-Saharan pay-television broadcaster StarTimes has secured French-language rights to the Spanish Segunda División from 2020-21 to 2023-24. Live matches from the promotion playoffs will be aired on StarTimes’ linear channels and OTT platform.
DTT and satellite TV provider StarTimes will show all 52 matches from the Africa Cup of Nations in sub-Saharan countries. The 2021 AFCON action will be aired live in high definition on the network's sports television channels and streaming service.
Pay-TV broadcaster StarTimes has acquired media rights for the UEFA Europa League in Africa. The network, which operates in numerous Sub-Saharan countries including Kenya and Nigeria, struck a three-season deal set to run until 2021. As part of their agreement with UEFA, StarTimes will show 205 live Europa League matches every season, totaling 615 games throughout the period of their contract. Matches will be broadcast live on the broadcaster’s HD channels, including World Football, Sports Premium and Sports Arena. Select games may also be aired in 4K Ultra HD. Subscribers will be able to stream all the matches online on StarTimes ON – the TV operator’s over-the-top (OTT) service available for computers and mobile devices.
StarTimes has acquired English-language French Ligue 1 rights in Africa. The pay-TV broadcaster will show live matches throughout the season on its channels, including StarTimes Sports Life, StarTimes Sports Premium, StarTimes Sports Focus and StarTimes World Football. Live Ligue 1 streams will also be available to subscribers on the StarTimes app.
StarTimes has acquired pay-television rights to the Canadian Premier League in sub-Saharan Africa, following an agreement with Mediapro Canada. StarTimes Sports Life will show seven first-round games, six playoff matches, as well as the grand final live on its channel. Coverage for the remainder of the Canadian Premier League’s 2020 season will also be streamed live on OTT streaming service StarTimes ON.
StarTimes has acquired exclusive multi-platform broadcast rights to the German Bundesliga in Sub-Saharan Africa. The pay-TV operator will show the games on its various television channels, including StarTimes World Football and StarTimes Sports Premium. Matches will also be available to stream live on StarTimes ON - the broadcaster's OTT service available to subscribers on Android and iOS.
