In a significant development for Portuguese football fans, TVI has secured a sublicensing deal with Eleven Sports for the UEFA Champions League broadcast rights. This agreement, spanning the next three seasons from 2021 to 2024, enables TVI to continue airing one Champions League match per week. The deal comes amidst competitive bidding in the broadcasting sector, with Eleven fending off a substantial offer from SIC. Alongside Eleven's comprehensive coverage, including all matches and the annual UEFA Super Cup, this arrangement ensures continued access for Portuguese audiences to the Champions League on free-to-air television.
Private free-to-air network TVI has obtained Portuguese rights to the 2022 World Cup subsequent to a sublicense deal with national broadcaster RTP. TVI has agreed to show three group stage matches, in addition to two Round of 16 matches, one quarterfinal and one semifinal. TVI’s 2022 World Cup matches may be streamed live on OTT service TVI Player.
